When MMA first started getting a little bit of a following a lot of people dismissed it as a passing fad that would disappear just as quickly as it came. Fortunately for the fighters and the fans, these people were completely wrong.
Modern MMA style fighting dates back to around 1920, but it wasn’t until 1993 that it really gained a foothold in the US, and only in the last couple of years has it become a wildly popular and widely televised sport. There are also schools like MMA Richmond appearing all over the place to train more fighters for the cage. Not everyone who trains for MMA will be successful in it, but there are enough people getting interested in it today that schools are not hurting for new people to teach.
More people are watching MMA on television and in person, too, and the amounts that fighters make are starting to increase so that some of the top fighters make a very good living with MMA. It’s not a passing fad, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
